The Batten School Center for Leadership Simulation and Gaming has recently developed the Louisiana Coastal Resilience Game. The simulation uses economic, environmental and social modeling to forecast the resilience of Louisiana wetlands over time given various policy decisions and natural weather events.

On Wednesday, March 16, 2016, the Batten School hosted a forum for candidates running in the Fifth Congressional District. The discussion was moderated by Dean Allan Stam and Professor Gerald Warburg.

The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy has moved up in the U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of public policy schools.

Earlier this month, six experts gathered to debate the pros and cons to Cash vs. Training. On one side of the table, Team Training included Omar Arias, Rita Almeida and Isaac Mbiti. On the other side, Team Cash included David McKenzie, Laura Ralston and Manuel Salazar. Each side brought significant evidence to bear.

Basketball player and Range resident Malcolm Brogdon (Col ’15, Batten ’16) says he plans to play basketball for a few more years, then either work for or start a nonprofit focused on alleviating poverty in developing nations.

Co-authored with Michael Horowitz and Cali Mortensen Ellis, this book examines 2,400 world leaders and their decision to engage in armed conflicts. Stam's research focuses on the dynamics of armed conflict between and within states.

After I graduate, I hope to work in an economic development capacity, helping those displaced by war and conflict to rebuild their lives, as well as set up political institutions to prevent future conflict and spur economic growth.

Top graduate students from across the nation will be participating in a climate change simulation competition on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016 at eight regional sites. The findings indicate that the link may be driven, at least in part, by feeling a lack of control over one’s life.
