Michael Russell recently joined the Global Partnerships Department for the National Basketball Association (NBA), where he is responsible for generating revenue through sales of marketing/media platforms and finding creative ways to integrate partners within the NBA’s business. Previous to joining Global Partnerships full-time, he spent two years in the NBA’s Associate program, a rotational program across different departments within the company. He graduated as a member of Batten's 2016 undergraduate class and is proud to call UVA a home away from home.

In any introductory political science course, students learn that one of the defining features of a thriving democracy is elections—these being free and fair elections, of course.

On Friday morning, Oct. 5, Social Entrepreneurship at the University of Virginia (SE@UVA), an initiative of the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy, came together with the office of Governor Ralph Northam and the Virginia Impact Investing Forum, to host the Virginia Impact Summit.

Last week, the Batten School and the Center for Politics hosted an event in Garrett Hall titled “The Economic Factors that Divide America” as part of the National Symposium Series on Democracy.

On Mondays, retired U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Paul Becker drives from his home in Alexandria to the University of Virginia. He holds office hours to meet with students, grabs an early dinner on the Corner, then teaches a course, Middle Eastern Policy Challenges and Opportunities, at the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy.

On September 21st, UVA hosted the 5th annual Shadwell Speaker Series, presented by the Jefferson Scholars Foundation and the Shadwell Society. This year’s featured speaker was foreign policy expert Anne-Marie Slaughter.

Coinciding with Constitution Day, the Batten School’s weekly Batten Hour speaker series tackled the timely topic of community policing and how it can bridge the disconnect between Constitutional rights and the government’s use of force —in this case, police force.

The weekend-long course will take place from Saturday, Nov. 10 to Sunday, Nov. 11 at Garrett Hall, home of the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy.
